How Will You Use Interior Design to Make the Most of Your Life?

Clean Bed: Home Design IdeasHow Will You Use Interior Design to Make the Most of Your Life? Have you ever wondered how some people seem to be able to move gracefully from work to family to socialising? Transitioning from one state to another isn't just down to a calm mind and a positive outlook. Design plays a huge role in how we approach our day-to-day lives - and it can influence us in more ways than you think.

How Will You Use Interior Design to Make the Most of Your Life

A home that has a strategic design is a home in which people can work, play, relax and have fun. But it doesn't happen by accident. If you're thinking of improving the design or interior of your home, it's important to consider where, how and when you want to utilise certain rooms.

For example, a stunning design for a living room would never work in an office. Why? Because both rooms perform very different functions, and therefore require a very different style of home design.

Take lighting as a case in point. As any design expert will tell you, the lighting design for a living room is all about ambience. Soft lighting from uplighters; the occasional standard lamp...

lighting has to blend in wholly with the overall home design of the room and it's primary purpose: relaxing and entertaining. An office, on the other hand, requires a very different type of interior design. The lighting here is all about task: clear, sharp rays of light that enable the worker to read files, prepare reports or study a design document.

These are just two examples of how design plays a vital role in our lives. But lighting is not the only example. Think of furnishings and colour design: both equally important aspects of interior design. Would you want the same soft, plush furnishings in your living room as you might choose for the interior design of your office? Probably not.

Why? Because the office is a place of focus; of work. This is not an interior in which to put one's feet up and relax. The office is an interior for concentration; inspiration; motivation. That's why sleek shapes, neutral walls and startling pieces of art are very popular in the design of office spaces.

And, by contrast, an interior design expert will introduce pastels, rustic shades and organic materials into a living room. Different spaces; different purposes; different styles of interior design. The key lies in knowing what you want from your interior... and matching the interior design to that requirement.
